Sceletium tortuosum extract, a plant indigenous to South Africa, also known as Kanna, Channa or Kouged. The plant has been used by South African pastoralists and hunter-gatherers as a mood-altering substance from prehistoric times. The first known written account of the plant’s use was in 1662 by Jan van Riebeeck. The traditionally prepared dried Sceletium was often chewed and the saliva swallowed, but it has also been made into gel caps, teas and tinctures. It has also been used as a snuff and smoked.

History of Kanna

The plant has been used by South African pastoralists and hunter-gatherers as a mood-altering substance from prehistoric times. The first known written account of the plant’s use was in 1662 by Jan van Riebeeck. The traditionally prepared dried Sceletium was often chewed and the saliva swallowed, but it has also been made into gel caps, teas and tinctures. It has also been used as a snuff and smoked.

Sceletium tortuosum is traditionally used to fight stress and depression, relieve pain and alleviate hunger. It has also been reported in studies that it alleviates excessive nocturnal barking in dogs, or meowing in cats, in pets diagnosed with dementia.

These are excellent for several reasons: They are convenient. They are much cheaper and more potent than TriStill or other competitors and the addition of the amino-acid taurine helps a lot. They are a great way to get through the “priming” period or process… If you have ever wondered why can’t I seem to “prime” or how do you “prime”? Then get these and this is what I recommend: 1 capsule per day every 5 days, then increase to 2 capsules per day for another 5 days, then finally 3 capsules for 5 days. Alternatively, you could take 1 capsule per day for 10 days and then 2 capsules per day for the last 10 days. After this you should be “primed” and ready to move on to the other extracts. Also, these are just good to have on hand in case you run out of your extracts – you have something to get you through till your next order/shipment and they can be combined with the other extracts. For the price and compared to the competition or even just for priming then 5/5. If you are looking for a more “pronounced” effect that you can “feel” more intensely, then I would recommend the extracts but “priming” is important and these are a great way to get that over with. These can also just be used as a supplement for a much more subtle effect than extract, especially for those people who are very sensitive to Kanna. Definitely will be getting more in the future!
